John’s ideal woman

Velma

I have just discovered something really funny, John and I were talking about his profile on the dating websites and the entries he put for ‘ideal woman’.

His would have been a cross between Velma from Scooby Doo (yes, the booky one with the polo-neck sweater, and her name was ‘Velma’ not ‘Thelma’, I just lost £2 on that one!), and an Irish Librarian. He reckons that he got close to that with me – strong personality, love of books, brainy, red hair, quite cute and with big tits! I’ll not comment on that.

He’s just shown me his entry on one of the websites, and he had forgotten that he’d updated it, it now says ‘Update: I’ve met the woman of my dreams….’, that is sooooooooo sweet (and he’s soooooooo embarrassed!).

Sad, very sad – still could be worse!

Country Life

Saturday, 22 December, 2007

Although I was born, and now live in, a city, I grew up in the countryside of Gloucestershire. Over the years I’ve watched the rural way of life disappearing, the local town becoming a replica of so many others across the country with chain stores and fast food outlets.

Now as I have just got to know (and love) another small town, Penistone (in South Yorkshire), I see the same thing happening with Tesco soon to build a superstore. A recreation ground and the old cattle market area will be flattened to make way for the temple to consumerism, which will probably rip the heart out of what remains of the town.

John has been photographing the amazing sights and people who are still working in and using this unique piece of Yorkshire history, before it’s all gone – see the slideshow.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Show of Hands recently and one song in particular made me think of all this.

Listen to the words…..

Loose change DVD

This film is fascinating – take with a (small) pinch of salt. Now available on DVD, make up your own mind about what happened on 9/11. You can also view it on the website.

Is this really newsworthy!?!

Okay, so Facebook is the newest, bestest, most popular thing since…….heaven knows! And I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for the social networking site (and Flickr) I don’t think John and I would have got together…..but……

…..is the fact that they have removed the word ‘is’ from the status update really worthy of an article in a daily paper – Oh! wait a minute – it’s The Telegraph – I knew there was a reason I didn’t read that paper – it’s full of crap! (and before you ask, no I wasn’t reading the paper to find this, I followed a link on Flickr!)

A romantic break with lots of photography

Thursday, 13 December, 2007
A number of people have been asking why I haven’t ‘blogged’ about our trip to Prague – and the honest answer is that for the first time ever I went on a romantic break with my partner and it’s unlikely to make for interesting reading!

However, perhaps a brief word and some photos for those who have asked; more photos will appear on my Flickr stream.

Our hotel was lovely, very modern and chic, and close to the main areas of the city. Most days were a combination of getting up just in time for breakfast (10am), wandering around taking photos, sitting in cafes/bars talking and spending the evening reading – what a boring couple we sound!

Prague is a truly beautiful city with amazing architecture – lots of photo opportunities. Anyone watching us would have been amused as we seemed to have gone in for ‘competitive photography’! Walking round a corner on of us would usually say, ‘I saw it first’, and on occasion we were actually pushing each other out of the say to get a shot!

Unlike most tourists we didn’t bother with the Palace or even the really famous astrological clock in the Old Market Square (although I had to take a couple of shots of it!); instead we wandered the streets, visited two excellent photographic exhibitions (the press photography one was amazing but made me feel very humble), and even had a very enjoyable hour in the main railway station!

On one day we found a small old fashioned bar not far from the Charles Bridge (which of course we also visited) and popped in for a beer. Six hours, potato dumplings, coffee and at least four beers later we finally decided to leave!

The afternoon in that cafe was the most enjoyable I’ve spent in as long as I can remember.

I guess the only low point of the trip occurred about 3 hours before we left; I had my purse stolen. There was only a small amount of cash inside, and all my bank and credit cards (now all cancelled). I guess the most upsetting thing was losing the purse itself as it was a Tula one that they don’t make anymore. Oh well!

The whole trip was so enjoyable, being with John was fantastic – I’m looking forward to lots more holidays and trips away with him, and lots more fighting over photos!

The first photo of the holiday that I took was taken from our hotel room window, with John trying very hard to distract me – it’s the one that I’m most pleased with….

Christmas is coming

Christmas door
Originally uploaded by Ms. Moll.

Today on the train to London I wrote my Christmas card lists – I say ‘lists’ as I realised that for possibly the first time there are actually a substantial number of people who’s only contact details I have are email addresses.

It’s not that I haven’t met them, in all cases I do know them personally (although a few I did meet via the internet), it’s just that email or phone is the only way we communicate.

Whilst it is known by most that I don’t ‘do’ Christmas; many of my friends and family do, so a card or email is appropriate. I do tend to mark the Winter Solstice so it cold be said that I do observe a celebration at this time of year.

Actually, like last year (in Paris on my own), this year will be very different for me.

I am unlikely to see any family and will actually be spending the day with John and his family – Christmas with children will be fun.

The other departure will be that John and I won’t be giving each other presents. We’ve agreed that neither of us NEED more stuff, nor can we afford to buy gifts.

Although I have asked John to draw me – but I think it unlikely we’ll have the time before Christmas.

Needs no comment!
